In the beginning, there was a tree of life that was found in the midst of the garden. Adam and Eve as the first human creation of God did eat this kind of tree. By the passage alone in Genesis it describes the tree that it came out of the ground and is pleasant to the sight, and good for food.
Questions: What kind of tree was it? A literal apple tree?
In reading the scripture, the kind of tree that Adam did eat is only said; the "tree of life" which was planted in the midst of the garden of God. It was not a literal fruit that we can buy in the market today because there is no such term stated like an apple tree, grapes, or whatever but it says; it is a "tree of life".
But when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, the tree was kept hidden away from them and the result was they were dead spiritually. I say they were dead spiritually because the tree was a spiritual bread and notice, upon cursing Adam to death he was still alive biologically and live for more than nine hundred years. So it is evident that the context about that tree was a spiritual tree of life and only written figuratively. When God says; "Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die Gen 2:16-17", it refers to the spiritual curse because it causes them to can no longer live with the tree of life until their flesh body will return to dust. And in sorrow they could only be with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
This kind of death also is not like the death of flesh that if a man dies his mind will totally feel sleep. No, for it is a death of separation between God and man because of disobedience. A man this time is separated from God which is the tree of life and did chose to be always with the world of corruption which is the knowledge of sin.
We can take a clear view about this when Christ did abolish the curse of the Law on the cross. The curse in the beginning is just the same curse of the Law of Moses. And people are oblige to do the whole law in all days of their lives, the same with what happened to Adam because of the curse he could only live with the tree of knowledge until he died. For where the knowledge is there will be always sin.
The Law of Moses was only given for them who were under the curse and the curse was they should fulfill the whole Law. But when Christ came and abolished it, he gave life instead and all became new creatures and were free from the curse.
In other words, the curse in the creation of Adam is just the figure of the curse in the law of Moses and was now abolished by Christ when he said at his last words on the cross; "it is finished".
This message about the curse was preached to the believers in Israel after Jesus died by way of revealing himself to John the apostle. Christ has shown the secret in the old times that he was that tree hidden for a very long time because of man's wickedness. As it is now reaveled to John in a dream that says; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God Rev. 2:7, the tree which bare twelve kinds of fruits and the leaves were for healing the nations.
And it was already began when Jesus came and said;
Even in his last supper with the disciples he figured it out to them by taking bread and said; "Take it; this is my body" Mat 26:26.
Thus, the people of God this time had received the tree of life which is Christ through the gospel. And the reason that a human flesh will die is because it was made of dust. For God created man with two bodies; a body of flesh which he formed from the ground and a body of spirit from his breath.

- Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

- Gen 3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

- Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
- Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
The Law of Moses was only given for them who were under the curse and the curse was they should fulfill the whole Law. But when Christ came and abolished it, he gave life instead and all became new creatures and were free from the curse.
- 2 Timothy 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
- Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

- Revelation 22:2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
And it was already began when Jesus came and said;
- "Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life" John 6:54.
- "My flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed" John 6:55.
- "He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him" John 6:56.
- John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
Even in his last supper with the disciples he figured it out to them by taking bread and said; "Take it; this is my body" Mat 26:26.

- Genesis 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
- Gen. 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
- 1Co 15:40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
